The Big Picture
The 2019 Nissan NT100 Clipper is the Nissan-badged version of the legendary Suzuki Carry Truck. Origin: Japan. First Generation: The "Clipper" nameplate dates back to 1958 (Prince Clipper), but the modern Kei truck version started in 2003 (U71). Current Generation: 2nd Generation (DR16T, launched 2013). It is identical to the Suzuki Carry and Mazda Scrum Truck, meaning parts are universally available. It is the backbone of small-scale agriculture and hardware delivery in Kenya.

- 660cc NA (R06A): 50 HP / 63 Nm. STANDARD This DOHC engine uses variable valve timing (VVT) on the intake side for better low-end torque. It is chain-driven and tough. Available with a 5-speed Manual or 3-speed Automatic (avoid the 3AT for highway use).
Interior & Practicality
- Short Wheelbase: The wheels are pushed to the corners, and the wheelbase is extremely short (1,905mm), giving it a turning radius of just 3.6 meters. It can U-turn on a farm track.
- Galvanized Bed: The cargo bed is fully galvanized to resist rust from wet cargo like vegetables or sand. The gates drop down on all three sides for easy loading.

Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Diff Lock Essential: If you are buying for farm use, ensure you get a 4WD model with "Diff Lock" (usually a button or lever). This locks the rear wheels together, allowing the truck to crawl out of mud even if one wheel is in the air. 2WD models struggle on wet grass.
Safety & Reliability
Basic. It has a driver airbag and ABS (on later models). There is no crumple zone to speak of—your knees are the crumple zone. Drive carefully. Reliability is bulletproof.
